GP and Primary Care Teaching

Nutritional Interventions for Supporting Sustainable Healthcare

We offer an engaging CPD-accredited online workshop that combines an evidence-based educational session with an interactive live cook-along.

In this workshop, we explore the nutritional approaches that support both human and planetary health through the lens of sustainability. We translate the recommendations of the EAT-Lancet Commission into practical, evidence-based action, using the Planetary Health Plate as a framework for everyday cooking and food choices. Together, we examine how dietary patterns can promote personal wellbeing while also helping to reduce environmental impact and support a more sustainable food system.

The workshop also includes a live cook-along, where participants learn how to prepare a balanced, healthy, and sustainable plant-based main course and dessert from their own kitchens. The session is designed to make sustainable cooking practical, accessible, and enjoyable, with all ingredients and equipment lists provided in advance so participants can cook alongside in real time.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the evidence supporting plant-based dietary patterns for both human and planetary health.
  • Understand the scientific rationale and practical considerations behind transitioning towards a more plant-based way of eating.
  • Apply practical strategies for preparing balanced, healthy, and sustainable plant-based meals through participation in a live cook-along session featuring a main course and dessert.
  • Identify practical approaches to adopting a whole-food plant-based dietary pattern aligned with the recommendations of the EAT-Lancet Commission Planetary Health Plate.

This educational event is targeted at health care professionals, working within primary care ( GP’s, practice nurses, health care assistants, clinical pharmacists etc); and can be delivered at a practice or wider PCN level.

Uptake across GP VTS schemes has been excellent; the workshop aligns perfectly with regular educational sessions and joint trainer and trainee events.

Our feedback consistently shows that primary care professionals see a vital need for more nutrition training in their day-to-day practice.
