What is lifestyle medicine?

Lifestyle medicine is a medical speciality focused on using therapeutic lifestyle interventions as the primary approach to treat and often reverse chronic conditions such as cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. Certified lifestyle medicine clinicians are trained to implement evidence-based, whole-person strategies that emphasise prescriptive lifestyle changes. By applying the six pillars of lifestyle medicine—a whole-food, plant-predominant diet, regular physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances, and positive social connections—clinicians not only treat but also effectively prevent these conditions.
